Manage Chats and Projects#
Use this page to start and manage chats, organize conversations in projects, duplicate chats, move chats between projects, and import, export, or clear chat history. Projects help keep conversations for the same task, customer, investigation, or workflow together without changing the provider and model selection controls in the Chat header.
Before you start, select the correct organization, provider, and model in the Chat header. Your available providers and models depend on organization settings and allowed providers.
Start a new chat#
- Open Chat UI.
- In the left icon rail, select Chats.
- Confirm the Provider and Model selectors in the Chat header.
- Click NEW CHAT.
- Type your message in the composer and send it.
The new conversation appears in the Chats list after the first message is sent.
Duplicate a chat#
1. Open Chat UI.
2. In the left icon rail, select Chats.
3. Find the conversation you want to copy.
Warning
If the conversation does not appear in the list, check that the correct provider and model are selected.
4. Open the chat row ... menu.
5. Select Duplicate.
The duplicate is created as a separate conversation in the Chats list. If the original chat belongs to a project, the duplicate is not attached to that project or to any other project. Add the duplicated chat to a project manually if you want to organize it there.
Start a new project#
- Open Chat UI.
- In the left icon rail, select Projects.
- Confirm the Provider and Model selectors in the Chat header.
- Click NEW PROJECT.
- Enter a project name that describes the work, such as a customer name, incident, feature, or research topic.
- Save the project.
The project appears in the Projects list. Use the project row ... → New chat menu to start a new chat inside the project.
Add an existing chat to a project#
- Open Chat UI.
- In the left icon rail, select Chats.
- Confirm the Provider and Model selectors in the Chat header.
- Find the conversation you want to organize.
- Open the chat row ... menu.
- Select Add to project....
- Choose the target project.
After the chat is added, open Projects and select the project to see the conversation in that project workspace.
Move a chat between projects#
To move a conversation from one project to another:
- Open Chat UI.
- Confirm the Provider and Model selectors in the Chat header.
- In the left icon rail, select Chats.
- Find the conversation you want to move.
- Open the chat row ... menu.
- Select Remove from project.
- Open the same chat row ... menu again.
- Select Add to project... and choose the new target project.
Removing a chat from a project does not delete the conversation from chat history. Use Delete only when you want to remove the conversation itself.
Import chats#
Use Import chats to bring conversations from an OptScale .zip export or supported third-party chat exports into Chat.
- In the left icon rail, select Import chats, or open Settings and use Data Controls → IMPORT.
- Upload the
.zipor.jsonexport file. - Wait for processing to complete.
- Open Chats to review the imported conversations.
Imported conversations appear in the Chats list. To organize them, use the chat row ... menu and select Add to project....
For source-specific export steps, see Use Cases — Migrate chat history.
Export chats#
Use Export all chats to download your chat history as a .zip archive.
- In the left icon rail, select Settings.
- In the Settings dialog, scroll to Data Controls.
- Under Export all chats as a .zip archive, click EXPORT.
- Save the downloaded archive.
The export includes chat history available to your Chat workspace at the time of export. Keep the archive in a secure location if conversations contain sensitive information.
Clear all chats#
Use Clear all chats when you want to delete all conversations from your Chat workspace.
Warning
Clearing chats removes all conversations from the chat history. Export chats first if you need an archive.
- In the left icon rail, select Settings.
- In the Settings dialog, scroll to Data Controls.
- Under Clear all chats, click DELETE.
- Confirm the deletion if prompted.
After the action completes, the Chats list is empty. Projects remain available, but conversations removed from chat history are no longer available inside projects.
